EP2: Lunch with Lindsay “Horses and Hats” Kentucky Derby talk

One of the highlights of my past year was experiencing the Kentucky Derby for the first time. I had never been but grew up hearing my Dad’s stories of covering it as a sports journalist for USA Today. Things got more interesting and surreal when I found out a horse I’m a minority owner of, Jace’s Road, had made it into the field. What???!!!! I wanted to learn as much as I could about what I was about to experience which meant learning the ropes from an owner’s perspective AND understanding what I needed to know about what to wear! I When I look back on this episode I think about how much fun it was to talk with my fellow co-owner NFL expert Ian Rapoport for his take on the competition and also gab with my close friend, and “go to stylist” Jeni about what to pair with my hat but my mind also immediately goes to the fact Forte, the horse owned by businessman Mike Repole, was scratched just before the Kentucky Derby. We recorded this episode just before the Derby so his excitement was palpable and seeing how touched he was to share it with his daughter reminded me of my own dad. Finding out Forte would not race the day before the Derby put into context how rare the opportunity is and how the chance to compete on the biggest stage is never guaranteed.
