EP 15: Catching up with Craig Melvin and a Special Guest Around the Holidays

from the cutting room floor:

This episode got a little sideways (in a fun way) because I find whenever my mother in law Betty Jo joins the conversation, those two can run off on a tangent that ultimately leaves them both doubled over with laughter. In this case it was all three of us. I set out to talk with Melvin about holidays and traditions. I asked my mother in law Betty Jo to join us but what I didn’t expect was how she described my husbands’ robust love of Christmas morning as a child. We had never talked about that. Seems odd but as the years have passed and we were both working, we have been on autopilot trying to make plans to make it all work. One of the things that I find is a work in progress is how to incorporate family time with extended family into our holidays if we live away. The importance of creating new memories while holding onto what shaped our happiness as children is something I didn’t think of until adulthood. Understanding how Melvin celebrated those moments as a kid through the eye of his mom was interesting and helpful. We covered a bit of everything in this one. Food, family and how to navigate the dynamics that make the holidays so much fun in the first place.

Podcast show notes:

Lindsay serves up holiday style lunch in a candid “booth breakdown” with husband Craig Melvin. They talk holiday traditions, family dynamics, and behind the scenes “Today Show” life. The duo is joined by special guest, Craig’s mom - Betty Jo Melvin, for a spirited conversation about this time of year.
